Firewall Issues
The most common problem in setting up and configuring the PBX software is the firewall, because the PBX software uses at least 8 ports, and it can be a hassle to allow certain numbers of ports, e.g. HTTP/HTTPS port, SMNP port, and don’t forget the required ranges of RTP port that the PBX software will need for software collaboration. This solution only focuses on Windows XP SP2 or later, there are a couple links below for pointers to McAfee and Linux Firewalls.
To make the installation and configuration of the PBX software seamless, the best way is to get the Windows Firewall (Available in Service Pack 2 or newer operating systems) to recognize the PBX as trusted application source.
McAfee Firewall
For instructions on how to allow pbxnsip as internet application to go through McAfee Personal Firewall plus, please visit the McAfee user manual pages 21 at http://download.mcafee.com/products/manuals/en-us/MPF_UserGuide_2006.pdf
Linux Firewall
Due to the fact that there are various firewalls for the software, setting up a range of firewalls to allow pbxnsip to go through is out of this article's scope, however either look into the specific Linux flavor manual to configure the firewall or visit the firewall tutorial from www.yolinux.com at http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LinuxTutorialIptablesNetworkGateway.html .
Proprietary Firewall and Others
For all other proprietary firewall software, please consult the software documentation to perform proper task to allow the PBX software to pass through the firewall.
Windows Firewall
1. Start->Control Panel->Windows Firewall
2. Click on the Exceptions Tab
3. Click on the Add Program… button near the bottom
